he loves, Jane Aubrey, who earlier that day told him it was

"FOR LOVE OF THE GAME completes the trilogy of Kevin Costner baseball movies in home run style. Costner plays Billy Chapel, a man facing simultaneously the end of his pitching career and a special relationship. If this wasn't enough, as Chapel broods over a love gone wrong, he's pitching the game of his life and isn't even aware of it. In the late innings it dawns on him that he's on the verge of completing a PERFECT GAME-- the holy grail for all hurlers.
The diamond action behind Billy is first rate, the flashbacks of his personal life tell a realistic story, and the film's ending is quite satisfying. Emotionally as compelling as Cosner's FIELD OF DREAMS, for pure baseball drama, this one has few equals." --Annie V
"Although this is #2 on the Baseballmovie.com
Top 25, it's my favorite of all baseball films to watch. I was
a pitcher throughout my baseball playing days so I have a greater
appreciation of this movie than others may have. The way the film
plays through Billy Chapel's mind is exactly how it is sometimes.
How you approach every batter, every pitch first starts in your
head."

"This movie was why i enjoyed Fever Pitch so much. There were both able to tell a baseball story while mixing in a story of a relationship away from the sport. The movie draws you into the baseball moment with extreme detail. Your concentration on the baseball parts of the movie are exhaustive. The reflection of his life is time to relax before getting wrapped up in the baseball game over & over again. Kevin COSTNER is able to make a baseball movie and make it real. This is an underrated movie and a must see." --Randy Howlett
